Wake the Hills: 1969 Chevrolet Corvette L88

The L88 was never intended to be an ordinary Corvette. Developed under Zora Arkus-Duntov, its 427-cubic-inch big-block was effectively a competition engine offered through Chevrolet's regular production system. It demanded 103-octane fuel, deleted creature comforts and paired serious racing hardware with a factory rating of just 430 horsepower, a number widely understood to understate what the engine actually produced.
